Is it possible to participate in both a corporate-type DC and an individual-type DC (iDeCo)?

Answer

Due to the law amendments in October 2022, simultaneous enrollment in a corporate-type DC and Individual-type DC (iDeCo) is allowed if all of the following requirements are met.
 
(1) The combined amount with monthly company contribution in a corporate-type DC shall not exceed 55,000 yen per month. (The maximum contribution amount for an individual-type DC is 20,000 yen.)
If you are enrolled in defined benefit-type corporate pensions (defined benefit pension plan (DB), employees' pension fund, etc.) in addition to a corporate-type DC, and want to join an individual-type DC (iDeCo), the combined amount with company contributions in the corporate-type DC and the amount equivalent to contribution amount in other pension plans such as defined benefit-type corporate pensions shall not exceed 55,000 yen per month. (The maximum contribution amount for an individual-type DC is 20,000 yen.)
 
(2) You do not make contributions for a corporate-type DC and/or an individual-type DC on an annual basis (or in appointed months).
 
(3) You do not make participant contributions (employee matching contribution)(*) in a corporate-type DC.
 
(*) Participant contributions (employee matching contribution) refers to a scheme that allows participants themselves to make contributions on top of the contributions made by the company.
